KATHMANDU, Jan 16 - Computer Association of Nepal (CAN) is organizing CAN Info-Tech 2001 Nepal Information Technology Show and Conference from January 25 to 29 in the capital. This is seventh of the annual Information Technology (IT) show being organized by CAN.

According to a press release issued at a press conference here today, the exhibition not only provides venue for marketing computer and information technology products and services, but also aims to increase IT awareness.

CAN Info-Tech 2001 will bring together hundreds of experts, professionals, buyers, sellers, manufacturers and suppliers, and provide a forum for networking an exchange of ideas in the field of IT. The participants will interact among themselves in technical seminars and workshops, organized by leading companies and professional groups discuss newer and advanced technology and products, says the release.

The exhibits expected to be included are all types of computers, PCs, laptops and accessories from international vendors. Computer education with a pavilion of its own, for the first time, would be the attraction for thousands of students longing for quality education at a competitive price, the release states.

For the first time, CAN is also organizing an international conference called "IT Revolution: A Millennium Opportunity" coincident with the exhibition. IT professionals from USA, Japan, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Malaysia, among others are expected to participated in it.

According to the release, the conference aims to offer a common forum for exploring new horizons and perspectives for IT in developing nations.

Speaking at the press conference, Lochan Lal Amatya, president of CAN, said that more than 100 Nepali and international exhibitors are expected to participate in the up-coming event. In addition he said over one hundred thousand visitors, are expected to visit the exhibition.

Chet Nath Upadhyay, Treasurer of CAN, said that the Info- Tech is attracting more and more crowd each year, which shows the growing awareness regarding IT. Basanta Raj Shrestha, CAN executive member, said that CAN is trying to gather cooperation in the IT sector on a regional basis, and has hence invited speakers from international community to take part in the conference.
