Budha Subba Gold Cup football

Post Report

KATHMANDU, Jan 16- Morang XI beat Youth Sports Club, Birgunj 1-0 Tuesday in the Third International Invitational Budha Subba Gold Cup Football championships that kicked off at Dharan Stadium.

Morang’s Sagar Thapa scored the goal for his team from the D-box in the 20th minute of the second half giving Morang XI a slender victory over Birgunj.

Morang XI squandered the first corner ball but pulled off a surprise when Sagar Thapa converted it into a goal from the D-box that decided the team’s victory over Birgunj.

However, the opening game between Morang XI and Birgunj wasn’t appealing much to the audience as had been anticipated. Having edged over by Morang in the second half, Birgunj improved their play but failed to keep the ball possession even after substituting two players who went in search of goal for
Birgunj.

Sal Bahadur Dhimal and Laxmi Narayan Chaudhary of Morang were yellow-carded while Dipendra Poudel of the same team sustained injury through the five minute of the game.

The tournament was inaugurated by Manoj Kumar Meyangbo, chief of Dharan Municipality here today. The students of Navo Daya Boarding School organized a spectacular march past as like the one witnessed in the world football federation during the inauguration of the tournament.

The tournament is co-sponsored by Gorkha Brewery and Mayos Noodles.

Teams from Bangladesh and India are also taking part in the event.
