Group art show to be organised

Post Report

KATHMANDU, Jan 24 - Seven artists from four different countries are to exhibit their paintings in the Nepal Art Council gallery from Thursday onwards.

The group exhibition, entitled Made in Nepal 2001 is the result of one-month-long workshop held in Kathmandu, the organiser Sangita Thapa of Siddhartha Art Gallery told reporters today.

One of the artists, Jac Gijzen, 44, said that working with artists from different countries and cultural background motivated him to learn from others and thus produce something unusual than his usual creations. "We are contemporary artists and obviously, we want to cross the limits," he said.

Gijzen is interested in Buddism and Hindu religion and since the past 20 years, he has been visiting the Himalayan Kingdom almost every year. Another artist, Laila Mookerjee said that in her country it was very cold and this was reflected in her paintings by predominant grey. "But here, everything is so burning and bright. Even a flower to me sparks out like a ball of fire."

The group of artists include Jac Gijzen, Rob de Graaf, and Peter Schenk from the Netherlands, Rolf A Kluenter, Laila Mookerjee from Germany, Prakash Chandawadkar from India and Jyoti Dawadi from Nepal.
