Wrong figures
The Kathmandu Post is a paper of choice of a large section of the population.
Contrary to this fact, TKP has been found with some wrong information relating to the
Bhutanese issue. The Post on 21st January, 200l has carried a wrong figure of 1980,
instead of 1989, as it was mentioned in a working paper presented by Pashupati Timlsina at
a function organised by Nepali Bhasa Parishad, Bhutan.
Another gross mistake in the paper on 26th January, is about the figures for
refugees. There can never be 50,00,000 refugees in Beldangi camp alone when the total
refugee figure in only about one Lakh.
Such simple but gross mistakes in news reports will certainly impair the
trusted name cultivated so far by The Kathmandu Post. I hope the reporters will take a
little more care in reporting, or that the editors simply dont overlook the facts.
