Bhattarai nominated to NC CWC
Post Report
KATHMANDU, Jan 28 - Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, who was re-elected
president of the ruling Nepali Congress (NC), today nominated Senior NC leader Krishna
Prasad Bhattarai to the Central Working Committee.
Bhattarai is the 20th member in the 37-member CWC, the partys apex
body. The party General Convention last week elected 18 members and Koirala as the party
president.
Koirala as the president has the authority to nominate the 18 remaining
members in accordance with the partys revised Constitution.
"With the conclusion of the Convention in a peaceful and successful
manner the situation of uncertainty in the party has ended," Koirala said.
During a special ceremony at the partys central office at Teku, Koirala
handed over the certificate to Bhattarai and the newly elected CWC members.
Coordinator of the party elections Mukund Regmi formally announced the names
of the new members though they had already been declared winners at Pokhara last week.
Regmi also presented a certificate to Koirala stating his victory in the
party election.
Koirala won the election for the party president defeating two other
competitors Former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and former Minister Ram Hari Joshi.
Koirala said he would also be nominating Deuba to the CWC but did not name
any more people.
Among the 18 elected members five were not present at the ceremony including
Prakash Man Singh, Pradeep Giri and Bimanendra Nidhi, who are known Koirala opposers who
were elected last week.
Also absent were Deputy Prime Minister Ram Chandra Poudel and Shaileja
Acharya.
The partys 10th General Convention began on Jan. 19 at the resort town
of Pokhara and concluded four days later after the party elections.
Prime Minister Koirala later told reporters that
the reshuffle in the cabinet and the nomination to the CWC will take place simultaneously
before the Winter Session of Parliament convenes next week.
