Blaming Nepalis
There is nothing surprising about your
editorial entitled "Not Cricket" (Tuesday, June 26, TKP). Its the same
questionable journalism Ive come to expect from your publication. Accusing Canadians
of discriminating against Nepalis is ridiculous. No where in your editorial alleging the
Canadian High Commission acted unfairly in processing visa applications for young Nepali
cricketers, or in the numerous articles you have published on this matter. Do you discuss
the significant amount of fraud and illegal immigration out of Nepal? In this specific
case, you could have easily cited the story of Nepali soccer players who disappeared while
on a sports tour in Japan.
In fact, in your own publication on
February 5, 2000, TKP published an article entitled "Disappearing Nepalis",
written by Arun Gupto, and referring specifically to Nepali athletes (in this case, soccer
players disappearing in Japan). Some people say that it brings shame to our self-esteem as
a Nepali, but then it is an interpretation. I am thinking about how they vanish and that
also how they disappear so very easily. The reason Nepalis have such troubles getting
visas to visit abroad is because of Nepalis. It is Nepalis who say one thing and do
another. It is Nepalis who stay back illegally. It is Nepalis who present fraudulent
documents to visa authorities. Nepalis love to blame others for their own problems. They
love to blame Indians, Pakistanis, Americans and now Canadians. Its time for all
Nepalis to look in the mirror. Lets start with the "journalists" of The
Kathmandu Post.
