Nepal beat Germany by two runs

KATHMANDU, July 6 - Nepal pulled a thrilling
two-run win over Germany in their final game of Group 2A Thursday at Maple Leaf North-West
Ground, Toronto under the International Cricket Council (ICC) Trophy.
Nepals top order misery continued as they
won the toss and elected to bat first in a rain-reduced 48-over match, it was reported on
cricinfo.com. Munik Shrestha fell short of his crease with only five runs on the board and
by the end of 25th over, they were reduced to 60-4.
The German spinner, Abdul Hamid Bhatti, being
the main destroyer who returned with a bag of five wickets for 31 runs. Hans Christian
Petersen gave him an ample support with a tight bowling, conceding only 20 runs off 10
overs while picking up a wicket.
But Dipendra Chaudhary held Nepal innings with a
solid fifty to take the score to 175-9. He hit 52 runs from 67 balls with the help of two
four and a six, before being stumped off the bowling of Bhatti. Jaya Sarraf (26) and
Sandeep Shrestha (20) were the other contributors with the bat.
Germany made an excellent start from Shamas
Uddin Khan (68) and Tayyab Rathore (35). But once leg spinner Paras Luniya took charge of
the ball, the match took a different twist. Producing consistent spin he completely
confounded the opposite batsmen, accounting for four wickets for 23 runs.
A 20-run ninth wicket stand tilted the odds back
in Germanys favour, but Nepal then hit back again to claim wickets in both the
penultimate and the closing over of the innings to eke out its nailbiting win.
In the other matches, Holland upstaged
tournaments top seed Scotland by 38 runs at the Toronto Cricket Skating and Curling
Club. Holland, after scoring 206-8, bowled the Scotland
At Ross Lord, Bermuda tumbled to a 57-run defeat
at the hands of the United States of America, chasing 200 runs at a rate of only four runs
an over. The result saw the Americans qualify for the Super League phase of the
competition.
Canada also defeated Fiji by 179 runs, easily
the most comfortable win of the tournament to date. In the match, Canada amassed a mammoth
score of 315-4
Denmark meanwhile sewed up top spot in Group 1B
with a determined 12-run victory over Ireland at Maple Leaf. Denmark raced to a score of
231-6 from their maximum 46 overs.
