Landslide blocks Siddhartha highway

Post Report

BUTWAL, July 17 - Transport service on the Siddhartha highway from Butwal to Tansen, Tmaghas and Pokhara has been disrupted due to heavy landslide at Dobhan triggered by torrential rainfall on Monday, police said.

Police and workers from the Road Department in Palpa are removing debris at Dobhan, about four km away from Butwal, on Tuesday afternoon.

Technicians working at the landslide site said that the road would not be opened for transport till the next 24 hours as a lot of heavy rocks have piled up on the road.

Engineer Rupak Rajbhandari said there could be further mountainslide even if the fallen rocks were removed. He said that a contingent of the Royal Nepal Army from Tansen was using explosives to remove the heavy rocks and bulldozers were seen clearing the road to resume transport as soon as possible.

This is the most vulnerable section of the highway where landslide blocks the highway during the monsoon.
