Disaster Holeri

The article titled "Operation Holeri" by Nagendra Chhetri printed in your paper on July
20 does not seem to have any evidence to back it up. Even the Human Rights group that has just returned from Nuwagaon in Rolpa have stated that they did not see any troops at Nuwagaon and that the government is disseminating false information.

The decision to go to war or launch a military operation is taken by the political leadership, but the conduct of the operation is exclusively a military matter. Therefore the claim by Chhetri that the mission given to the RNA by the government was to search and rescue the abducted policemen and retrieve their weapons without inflicting any casualties is simply unbelievably. Any military leader or leadership that accepts a mission or andantes where casualties are unacceptable is either not in the right frame of mind or totally callous to the concept of fore protection.

What has been made crystal clear after the so-called. Operation Holeri is that the Maoists have drawn first blood from the Royal Nepal Army and that the RNA has lost its cover of being a capable fighting force. Although Chhetri written that all the entry and exit points are closed are the cordon areas is being tightened, a few days back, former Prime Minister Koirala had informed Congress the members of Parliament that the RNA has been strategically relocated very vague at best.

Hopefully this is not an attempt by the RNA or for the RNA to cover up the dismal performance of the RNA leadership during this whole episode.
