On Deuba’s cabinet

This refers to the news story entitled "Deuba’s ‘balanced’ cabinet likely soon" published
on July 25, 2001, TKP.

I wonder how Prime Minister elect Sher Bahadur Deuba is going to choose his cabinet ministers. The Young Turk has already demonstrated as if he is the only capable person with young mind in the Nepali Congress. He has even disclosed that his cabinet will consist 18-20 ministers only. It is crystal clear that Deuba has been surrounded by a bunch of corrupt leaders. Deuba himself is not better than Khum Bahadur Khadka. He introduced Pajero culture and even provided pension to parliamentarians during his prime ministership. Khadka is likely to be his Home Minister and Chiranjibi Wagle may replace Govinda Raj Joshi. I am sure once the country is run by Khadka, Wagle and Deuba, there is bound to be more cases of corruption than solution to corruption. I perceived this situation the moment Girija Prasad Koirala, who identifies himself more as an Indian than a Nepali, resigned from the post of prime minister last week.

Of course, Sushil Koirala was not less incompetent in misusing state funds than Deuba. The restoration of democracy, no matter what the members of NC claim and do, has brought in Nepali politics more corrupt leaders, be they members of NC or UML. Unless and until we introduce a Chinese-like law against corruption in our country, we shall never get rid of corrupt leaders.
