Central Karetekas reign supreme

KATHMANDU, July 26 The selection matches in Karate for
the upcoming 9th SAF Games concluded today as Central region players continued to stamp
their authority over the discipline.
Central region player Rabi Maharjan won the 60 kg weight
category beating Santosh Khadka of the Western region. Arun Bhujel of the Mahendra Police
Club finished third in the same category.
Bhesh Bahadur Gurung won the title for Tribhuvan Club in the
55 kg weight category defeating Amrit Adhikari of the Central region. Ramesh Nepali, also
from the Central region clinched the third place.
In the 65 kg weight category, Deepak Shrestha brought more
pleasure to the Central region fans when he defeated Ram Krishna Shrestha of the Eastern
Region. Jivan Malla managed to stand on third.
Likewise Dhoj Man Moktan bagged the title in the 70 kg weight
category. Shyam Sundar Kunwar of Tribhuvan Club and Khem Bahadur Gurung of Mahendra Police
Club finished second and third place respectively.
Fatta Bahadur Gurung took the maiden title for the Western
Region in the 75 kg weight category. Ram Saran Twati of the Central Region managed second
and Bharat BC of Mid-western Region placed third.
In the 80 kg weight category, Davendra KC won the days
only title for Mahendra Police Club as Gangadhar Poudel of Mid-western Region and
Rakesh Shrestha of the Central Region finished second and third respectively.
Western Region grabbed more titles when Krishna Gurung stand
first in the weight class for the over 80 kg. Hemanta Rai of the Eastern Region secured
the second place while Nawaraj Maskey finished third.
Central Region also dominated all the events of Kata. In the
single events, Ganga Ram Maharjan, Purna Balami and Subodh Singh Thakuri, all from Central
region, respectively placed first, second and third.
In the team events, Central Region team (Bijaya Lama, Purna
Balami and Subodh Singh Thakuri) showed supremacy over the Tribhuvan Club team, which was
placed second while Nepal Police team won the third position.
The players in the top three positions are selected for the
closed camp which will start shortly.
