MPC, Central Region enter
semifinals
Post Report
KATHMANDU, July 30 Mahendra Police Club
(MPC) ensured its place in the last four of the 25th National Football Championship in
style posting an emphatic 13-2 victory over the lowly Mid-western Region at Dashrath
Stadium on Monday.
The Policemen were dominant right from the word
go and took the lead as early as in the 3rd minute. Such was MPCs presence in the
match that three of its players Ananta Thapa, Raju Pulami and Sol Bahadur Karki
scored hat-tricks in the match. Thapa finished the match with four goals.
Although Ritesh Khadka of Mid-west scored in the
26th minute through a beautiful pass from Bhakta Rana from the right flank, their moves
were otherwise sporadic. If they managed to pull two goals, it should be largely
contributed to MPC who did not seem bothered to care much about it as they went for goal
galore. Khadka scored both the goals for his team.
The Mid-western boys, who are yet to overcome
the 1-9 loss in their last outing against the Central team, were mismatch to MPC rivals in
the soggy outfield.
Sol Bahadur Karki opened the MPC scoring with a
header, leaving the Mid-western goalie Juber Ahmed clueless. Ramesh Budhathoki, Pawan
Gurung and Kishor Subba were the other police players to have scored a goal each in the
high-scoring match.
In the other match of the day, Central Region
overwhelmed the Far-western team by 5-1. Like in their earlier match, the Central players
outperformed their rivals in every department of the game.
Raj Kumar KC found the net twice in the match in
the 5th and 79th minutes of the game. Janak Singh literally took away the match from
Far-western Region scoring the teams fifth goal in the 88th minute.
Kailash Dangol and Aita Singh Tamang were the
other goalscorers for the Central Region while the lone goal for the Far-west came from
Manoj Shahi.
Boxing
Suwarna Sapkota of Central Region made it into
the final 24 defeating Bam Bahadur Shyangtan of Trivhuban Club in the light middle weight
(71kg) category in the final day of boxing selection tournament at Dashrath Stadium
Covered Hall.
Shyangtan showed some early promise landing a
few punches on Sapkota as they entered the ring. But it was the latter who making most out
of his height to steal important points.
In the second round, Shyangtan gave a tough time
to Sapkota even forcing him to the canvas once. But Sapkota made a good recovery in the
third round as he put his hook shots to accumulate quick points. Sapkota looked more agile
in the fourth round while Shyangtan could hardly make his move and took a heavy
punishment, which cost him the bout.
In the days other events, Central
Regions Kumar Adhikari registered win on points in light welter weight (63.5 kg)
over Udhav Singh Kunwar of Mid-western Region. Also to win on points were Trivhuban
Clubs Hari Chandra Khadka in welter weight (67 kg), Mahendra Police Clubs
Arjun Rawal in light middle (71 kg) and Central Regions Balram Tiwari in light heavy
weight (81 kg).
Trivhuban Clubs Bikash Pariyar was
declared winner in the middle weight as his opposition Roshan Yadav of Eastern Region
retired in the middle of the bout. Central Regions Rajan Dangol (middle weight) and
Trivhuban Clubs Bishnu Rijal (heavy weight) were also declared winner in similar
fashion.
Similarly, Arjun Tamang of the Central Region
(welter) and Padam Singh Panta of Trivhuban Club did not play the whole round as the
