Sports bodies express condolence

KATHMANDU, June 14 - The Nepal Karate Federation (NKF) organised a condolence rally Thursday on the 13th day of mourning of the untimely demise of His Late Majesty King Birendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev, Her Late Majesty Queen Aishwarya, His Late Majesty King Dipendra and other members of the Royal Family.

Over 15,000 karatekas headed for Durbar Marg. The rally, carrying the pictures of the beloved late King and Queen flanked by the national flag and federation’s flag on half mast, passed along New Road, Indrachowk, Kamalachhi before reaching at Durbar Marg.

Federation’s president, Sharat Singh Bhandari, founder of the federation and chief instructor Thaneshwor Rai, vice-presidents Lok Man Singh Karki, Pradeep SJB Rana; general secretary Dawa Gurung delivered a condolence book with players’ signatures to the Royal Palace. The rally was dispersed at the Dashrath Stadium after offering garlands to the pictures of the late Majesties.

NKF also announced that karate dojangs from all across the country would hold a condolence meet on the 13th day of mourning of the late King Dipendra.

Meanwhile, All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), led by Ganesh Thapa, organized a condolence meet to express grief over the untimely demise of His Late Majesty King Birendra, Her Late Majesty Queen Aishwary, His Late Majesty King Dipendra and other Royal Family members, says a press release issued here today.

Speaking on the occasion, Ganesh Thapa, president of ANFA said that the tragic incident has shocked the players, referees and other members of the association.

Present on the occasion were the players of ANFA academy, officials of various football clubs, referees and the members of Nepal Sports Journalists Forum.

Likewise, various football clubs of the country released press statements expressing their sorrow over the tragic incident, which claimed the lives of the members of the Royal Family.

Similarly, Nepal Football Fan Club also expressed grief in the press release issued here today.
