Ranabhat’s fiasco
The probe committee broke its silence
to clarify much awaited issue of Narayanhity Royal Palace massacre.
The presenter was in the midst of many native and foreign media
personnel. Regarding its findings, I have nothing to express, partly
because, I am afraid of the Panchayati legacy of detention of the
chief editor of Kantipur daily, and more heavily, because I am
constitutionally bounded ‘Yes’ citizen. My lips will remain shut.
At least all the literate persons have
expected the personality of Speaker of the House Taranath Ranabhat
would not be so ridiculous and act as a mentally ill creature in front
of foreign media in presenting such a serious matter. (Since
politicians have shown their incompetence and ignorance many a time
while confronting local media.) He presented, as consented by His
Majesty King Gyanendra, the probing committee’s final report in an
‘unofficial translation’. An official person speaking in an
‘unofficial translations’!!
His presentation was so
"English" 9 (or Nepalish?!!) that most of the attendants
appreciated with mocking laughter. A good reward for excellent
English! Most irritating situation occurred when the Speaker with 9 mm
caliber spoke to media persons that he could shoot with the sound
pa-at-tat. This scene reminded me of Amrish Puri in one of the Hindi
films (I am sorry I could not mention the name of the film.)
The nation is bereaved at the death of
their loving King, Queen and other members of Royal Family. The one
who is assigned with the responsibility of presenting the findings of
grave matter appears in media with a cheerful face, carrying gun and
claiming that he could shoot with rat-at-tat.
The speaker has played with the
sentiments of bereaved people. If he is really the speaker of the
representatives of people, why should he hesitate to apologize
publicly and undo the damage on his reputation?
