Cambridge rules in Gillette badminton

KATHMANDU, June 28 - Umesh Khadka and Krishna Khadka both representing Cambridge School advanced to the teachers singles final of the first Gillette inter-school badminton tournament Thursday.

Umesh Khadka, the right handed trounced stunned Sobit Subba of Kumudini School in a straight games. Subba, who looked in ominous touch in his previous encounters, simply could not stand against all-court badminton of Khadka, going down tamely at 8-15, 8-15. Khadka now takes on his colleague Krishna Khadka in the final, who also scored a straight-forward win over GB Budathoki of Milan School.

Khadka never let his opposition Budathoki to get his rhythm as he raced to a 15-8, 15-6 in the match that lasted just 25 minutes.

In senior girls doubles, the pair of Sonam Sherpa and Anita Gurung of Sunrise School made an impressive start in the match against Barsa Wagle and Ajita Thapa of Milan School without dropping a point at 11-0. They quickly wrapped up the match with the score of 11-5 in the second game. They take on Kushum Gurung and Pasang Lhamu Sherpa of Sunrise School in the July 6 final.

In other quarter finals played in the day, Pasang Lhamu Sherpa of Sunrise ousted Sujata Lama of Gillette in the senior girls singles with a comprehensive score of 11-5, 11-3. Also impressive in her win was Manju Sunar of Milan School, who thrashed Srijana Nagarkoti of Yashasvi School by 11-4, 11-3.

Meanwhile, Raju Tamang of Milan School, Nuru Sherpa of New Ideal Gillette, Sandeep Shrestha of Sunrise School and Dhiraj Bohara of LRI School also advanced to the semi-finals of the junior boys singles.
