FNCCI establishes National Excellence Award Post Report KATHMANDU, March 5 - The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), the apex body of the business community, today announced the establishment of an FNCCI National Excellence Award. The Award is established with a view to promoting awareness of performance excellence for sustainable growth and development of institutions, thereby enhancing productivity and exploring ways of sharing knowledge and experience. The goal of the establishment of the Award is to bring competitiveness in the local enterprises so that their products can compete in the international market with enhanced quality. Minister of State for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Krishna Prasad Sitaula, unveiling the dummy of the FNCCI National Excellence Award, said that time to review the existing industrial policy has come and urged the business leaders to furnish their recommendations incorporating the issues of the employees among others for the same. "In may opinion, the time to rethink about the industrial policy has come and I ask our business community to come up with their suggestions for to give renewed vigour to industrialization", said the State Minister. Before we acquire the World Trade Organization (WTO) membership, we should have comprehensive discussion with the business community so that we would not be at disadvantage, he said. Extolling the establishment of the National Excellence Award, State Minister Sitaula reminded the business community of the social justice, environmental issue and above all the interests of the consumers and move ahead in the new millennium. Expressing happiness over the establishment of the Award, Officiating President of FNCCI, Rabi Bhakta Shrestha said the award being set up with a view to enhance competitiveness among the enterprises will add a new dimension in the history of FNCCI. He said the Award was established as the existing executive body of the FNCCI had pledged soon after their election. The establishment of the first-ever award of the commerce and industry sector is a testimony to the commitment of the present executive body, he added. Binod Bahadur Shrestha, Second Vice-President of the FNCCI, laid emphasis on the consistency in policy and pointed out the need of formulating a long-term industrial policy. He said that investment has come to zero level as investors are insecure both physically and policy-wise. Kush Kumar Joshi, Chairman of Productivity and Quality of the FNCCI, said the award is distributed in three categories grouping the enterprises in big, medium and small and any organized enterprise is eligible to apply for the Award. Enterprises can submit their applications latest by March 18 and the award and commendation certificates will be distributed on April 11 on the occasion of Industry and Commerce Day. Concerns raised over poor law, order KATHMANDU, March 5 (PR) - Rabi Bhakta Shrestha, Acting President of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has expressed deep concern over the deteriorating law and order situation of the country. And, has urged the government to take concrete steps to restore investment friendly environment, states a press release issued here today. Shrestha stressed upon the need to enhance national production, productivity and human resource to face the emerging challenges of the new millennium. He was addressing the inaugurating session of a workshop on Business Leaders in New Millennium, jointly organized by Human Resource Development Committee of the FNCCI and Sunsari Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Dharan, Sunday. Highlighting various activities of the Federation, he said that federation has been engaged in providing training to the officials of the federation with an aim to promote professionalism and the leadership, thereby contributing in the national economic development. Predeep Man Baidya, Chairman of Human Resource Development Committee said that the federation has been actively involved in human resource development by instituting a separate committee and expressed his confident that such step would significantly contribute in the overall national development. 30 trainees from 14 districts are participating in the workshop, including presidents, other high district officials and members of city chambers of commerce and industry. |
