Crime against humanity

Iam deeply grieved by the sad news of the destruction of all statues of Lord Buddha, the apostle of peace, who spread the message of peace, non-violence and tolerance to the world, in central Bamiyan province of Afghanistan.

Every religion in this world encourages people towards the welfare of all sentient beings, including human beings. Non of the existing religions teaches hatred or enmity towards other fellow beings, having faith in different religions or social beliefs.

Furthermore, it is obvious that Buddhism is based on principles of equal compassion to all sentient beings. Therefore, I appeal to the Taliban government of Afghanistan to immediately stop demolishing priceless statues of Lord Buddha.

I would also like to call on all national and international communities, including His Majesty’s Government, the United Nations, Buddhist associations and all other social organisations for their joint efforts to preserve these ancient statues in Afghanistan.

Buddhi Raj Bajracharya
President
The Organisation of Buddhist Monasteries of Lalitpur
