Threat to Nepalis

I read with interest the article on the citizenship bill by Jal Singh (Ball is in the Supreme Court, TKP, March 7 2001)

It is a heartening fact that His Majesty the King, who is the protector and the guardian of the Constitution, has sought the advice of the Supreme Court on the Nepali Congress endorsed Bill which the legal experts are calling unconstitutional and the common-man on the street perceives as anti-national. How could the lawmakers of the Lower House pass this Bill when the Nepalese themselves are in danger of befalling as a minority in their own motherland, if this Bill becomes a law? How could the government draft a bill which permits anybody to get the citizenship even if his/her father is not a Nepali citizen? Doesn’t this pave the way for millions of Indians to enter Nepal and acquire Nepal’s citizenship? Doesn’t this Bill welcome Afghani mujahidins, sympathizers of the LTTE, BODO, ULFA and Free Tibet Movement to get hold of Nepal’s passport, open up bank accounts, purchase immovable property and, then, carry out sinister designs against India and China from our territory?
