Mahata, Chand in pre-quarters

KATHAMNDU, March 15 - The double’s team of Indra Mahata and Pankaj Chand advanced to the pre-quarter finals in the men’s double’s category of the First Bulls Prize Money Open Badminton tournament held here today.

Mahata and Chand defeated the pair of KB Gurung and Khem Limbu 15-5, 15-6. Likewise, Dil Pun and Khem Pun also advanced to the pre-quarter final round defeating Madhusudan Lamichhane and DB Ale 15-3, 15-7 in another match held earlier today. Devojit Mukharjee and Anup Thapa were also one of the teams to enter the same round defeating Krishna Thebe and Dev Kumar 15-3, 15-2 in the one sided match.

In the men’s singles’ event, Indra Mahata beat Umesh Khadka 15-4, 15-1 while Sabin Niraula defeated Lal Bahadur Rai 15-2, 15-2 and Khem Pun beat Tek Narayan Jha 15-8, 15-2 to move on to the pre quarter finals.

Likewise, Devojeet Mukherjee, Prabhatji Khatri, Biahal Raj Shrestha, Pradeep Rawal, Mahesh Bikram Adhikari, Bharat Shrestha and Navraj also entered the pre quarter finals in the men’s singles’ event.

The team of Khem Pun and Minu Gurung beat Dhrendra Bhari and Badi Gurung 15-13, 15-7 in the mix doubles’ match. Indra Mahata and Anyu Rana also entered the next round as they received a walk over from their rivals.

In the veteran’s doubles’ match, Mohan Bahadur Shahi and RB Bista entered the pre quarter finals getting walk over from Bimal Thapa and Dev Gurung.

The tournament is organized by Bull’s Indoor Sports Hall under sponsorship of Carlsberg beer and has a total prize money of Rs 52,000.
