Sanita, Bina enter final

KATHMANDU, March 16 - Sanita Pun and Bina Tulachan entered the ladies’ singles final of First Prize Money Open Badminton championship winning their respective semi-final matches today.

In a thrilling match, Sanita of Bulls Gym defeated Maya Gurung of the same gym 3-11, 11-6, 13-11. Sanita came back very well in the match after losing the first set rather tamely to Maya, who was giving a tough fight to the winner.

However, in the other semi-final match, Bina Tulachan of Nachhipot Youth Club got past her opponent Mina Gurung rather easily. She won the double setter 11-0, 11-6. Mina did not seem any match for Bina who played aggresively in her entire stay at the court. The final match of the ladies’ singles is expected to be an exciting one as both the finalists seem to be in aggressive mould.

In the veteran’s doubles event, the team of Krishna Mohan Shrestha and Suresh Chandra Shrestha advanced to the final defeating the pair of Mohan Bahadur Shahi and R B Bista in the clash of Police teams. The Shrestha duo will face another police pair of R B Shrestha and Hem Gurung, who also won their semi-final match today.

In the ladies’ doubles, Devi Gurung and Khagi Gurung won their match against Badi Gurung and Bahu Maya while the ladies finalist Bina Tulachan entered the semis in the doubles event along with her partner Krishna Pun. Similarly, the pair of Tulasi Gurung and Hem Kumari Gurung also entered the semi-finals along with the pair of Sanita Pun and Mina Gurung.

In the veteran’s singles, Suraj Chandra Shrestha and Kumud Tripathi, who won their respective matches today, will face each other in the semis. Likewise, R B Bista will clash with Shankar Bahadur Bista.

In the men’s singles matches held here today, Debojit Mukherjee beat Rabi Niraula while Ram Singh Choudhary beat Khem Pun. Likewise, Prabhat D Khatri, Indra Mahata, Bharat Shrestha, Navaraj, Pankaj Chand and Dornath Sedhai also won their matches played today to enter the quarter-final stage in the championship.
