Overlooking culture

Iwas going through the March-April issue of a commentary magazine called Travellers’ Nepal distributed by the government.

In the full-page message of His Majesty’s Government, secretary Varun Prasad Shrestha welcomes the tourists "on behalf of His Majesty’s Government, Ministry of Tourism & Civil Aviation".

This is an example how government staff’s deliberate negligence overlooks "culture". This cannot be overlooked as a minor mistake, if he himself has shown his designation as secretary of the Minister of Culture, Tourism & Civil Aviation at the bottom.

Though culture as such cannot give any commission or commotion like tourism and civil aviation, it must be kept in mind that culture is the only identity of Nepal and its country, if we exclude the gift of the Himalayas. Culture is the fertile ground where fruitful trees like tourism and civil aviation can grow.

Though the Nepali government does not have any convincing programmes on this neglected sector, it would be great for the people of this culturally rich county, if responsible secretaries like Shrestha at least remember all components of their ministries in formal messages.
