Bhairahawa downs Biratnagar

Post Report

KATHMANDU, March 27 - Bhairahawa team beat Biratnagar boys by six wickets in the ongoing Under-19 Regional Selection Cricket tournament being held at Tribhuvan University ground today.

Biratnagar scored 153 runs losing all their wickets in the allotted 50 overs after they came out to bat first winning the toss. Biratnagar team, who lost their previous match against Birgunj, had a decent start as opener Yaswant Subedi scored 44 runs with the help of 7 boundaries. Although Subedi started aggressively in the beginning, he had to slow his tempo as the middle order batsmen crumbled against the pressure of Bhairahawa bowlers. Soon after the opening partnership between Sarfaraj Ansari and Yasawant Subedi was broken, Biratnagar found itself in trouble. However, Subedi stuck to his task and played the role of an anchor for his team.

It was a tough time for the Biratnagar boys since their number three and four batsmen returned to the pavilion without troubling the scorers. Manjeet Shrestha, who came in at number 5, proved to be a relief for the team as he remained in the crease to contribute much needed 20 runs to the total.

It was the spell of Basanta Regmi that led the Bhairahawa team to victory with his match winning five wickets to his account. Regmi bowled for eight overs giving away 35 runs. Besides Regmi, Krishna Kuwar took three wickets in 34 runs with a maiden over.

Bhairahawa boys who came to the field with a moderate target of 154 runs on the board had a bad start when they lost their opening batsman Bharat Sharma in the third over. It was the number 5 and number 6 batsmen who saved the day for the them with their elegant innings to defeat their opponents in the 37.1 overs with 6 wickets remaining.

Shakti Gauchan, coming at number 5, scored a half century with the help of four boundaries while the number 6, Basudev Thapa gathered a quick 47 runs with the help of six boundaries to end the days play. Manoj Bhandari chipped in 21 runs to the total off 37 balls.

On the bowling side, Biratnagar boys seemed to be aggressive in the initial stage of the inning but as the pair of Gauchan and Thapa settled on the crease, they seemed helpless against the caution mixed with timely aggression shown by these two.

Manjeet Shrestha was rather expensive in his nine overs, being able to take only one wicket giving away 35 runs. Guddu Das and Ayush Shrestha also took one wicket each.

Basanta Regmi was declared man of the match for his match haul of five wickets.

Tomorrow’s match will be played between Biratnagar and Nepalgunj.
