Tendi wins Soaltee Golf

KATHMANDU, May 5 - Ang Tendi Sherpa lifted the 14th Soaltee Challenge Golf Trophy firing a 64 - three under par, in the two day tourney played at the golf course of Royal Nepal Golf Club at Tilganga today.

Mani Rai, the leader in yesterday’s game, finished a close second with a total of two under par 65. Rai, who had come all the way from Dharan, finished runner-up despite his spectacular play which included a total of five birdies. Had he not squandered his chances he would have stood on the podium receiving the winners trophy.

Among the ladies, it was Shastika Shrestha taking the title with a score of 68 - one over par. A total of 90 golfers participated in the two day tourney. The tourney, which used to be played under one day format earlier, was changed into a two day affair as the number of participants was on the rise continuously.

In the senior golfers’ section, M B Raut topped the scorecard with a total of two under par while in the junior section it was A Fischer of Switzerland who had a 68 point finish in the game. Among the super senior players, it was septugenerian DC Khanna (71) who finished the nine hole match with a score of 35.

Prabhakar Rana, Chairman of Soaltee Hotel Limited, presented the awards to the winners at a function held here after the tournament.
