Invitational kick-boxing C’ship reaches semis

KATHMANDU, May 6 - Santosh Khadka of Baneshwor secured the first position in the 65 kg weight kick-boxing category of the International Invitational kick-boxing and semi-contact karate championship organized by World United Martial Arts Federation-Nepal.

Khadka was followed by Birendra Budhathoki in the second position while Bharat Kharmi of India and Dinesh Subba of Bhutan stood joint third. In the ladies 50 kg open category, Sangita Tamang of Mahendra Bhavan stood first while Manju Khadgi stood second followed by Manali Pakar (India) and Laxmi Thapa (Bhutan).

Similarly, in the 45 kg bout it was Tulasa Thapa followed by Lalita Shahi at the second spot while the third spot went to Shila Khadgi and Sita Chuhan (Bhutan).

In the semi-contact karate for the ladies, Manisha Ranabhat entered the final in the 20 kg weight category where she is scheduled to meet Rupali Deswal, who entered the final as her opponent failed to show up. Likewise, in the 25 kg group, Purnima Shah won her semi-final match and will meet Priya Gurung in the final match tomorrow.

Sapana Lama won her semi-final match against Kalpana Shrestha in the 30 kg weight class. Another player who made it to the finals was Oxida Gangel of India who won her fight against Shanti Gautam in the semis.

The other players who made to the finals were:

Sumira Lama and Yameshi Jagdish in 35 kg; Shila Khadgi and Arti Patel (India) in 45 kg; Laxmi Thapa (Bhutan) and Sangita Tamang in 50 kg; Sanju Lama and Manali Pawar in 55 kg.

In the men’s section the players who made it to the finals were:

Rabindra Gurung and Kundan Bishupawar in 20 kg; Rakesh Gurung and Amit Deshmukh in 30 kg; Kiran Rai and Ajit Bedi in 35 kg; Om Prakash Rai and Ghanashyam Madhukar Patil in 40 kg; Bimal Thapaliya and Srikrishna Aryal in 45 kg; Man Bahadur Thapa (Bhutan) and Pan Bahadur Yonzon in 50 kg; Sandesh Tamang and Santosh Sanjwal in 55 kg; Bharat Shyam and Surya Lama in 60 kg; Dinesh Subba (Bhutan) and Sanam Mukhsinde in 65 kg. In the open round for the men’s Sabbir Khan entered the final along with Shaligram Paudel.

The final matches will be played tomorrow.
