Sushmita Kandel felicitated

KATHMANDU, May 10 - Sushmita Kandel, the teenage martial art
sensation, was felicitated today in a function organized by Chhahari Youth Club for her
achievements in various national and international championships over the years.
Her Royal Highness Princess Shruti Rajya Laxmi Devi Rana
handed over a cheque of Rs 100,000 along with a felicitation letter to the youngest ever
national champion in the function held at the Birendra International Convention Center.
Speaking at the occasion, Sushmita promised her well wishers
to add more medals to her already illustrious career. She further added that her success
was not only her own but a result of the efforts put in by many individuals including her
coach Indra Shahi and her father, Sita Ram Kandel. Sushmita, who was awarded Gorkha
Dakshin Bahu and the Trishakti Patta last year, has won a phenomenal 59 national and
international medals of which 37 are gold - all at an age of just 17.
Besides Sushmita, Thaneshwor Rai was also felicitated for his
contribution to the martial arts. Similarly, Indra Shahi, Sushmitas trainer for nine
years and World United Martial Arts Federation were also felicitated.
Nepal Sports Journalists Forum (NSJF) was also felicitated
for its contribution in spreading sports to national and international arena. Mukunda
Bogati, president of the forum and sports journalist of Kantipur Publication received the
letter on behalf of the forum.
