Sports officials appeals for scientific research

Post Report

KATHMANDU, May 13 -Even as the AFC barred Nepal last week from taking part in the next Asian youth soccer championship for what it termed ‘non-cooperation in the age verification’ of the Nepali footballers during the Asian Youth U-16 championship held in Vietnam last year, Nepal Institute of Sports Science Health and Physical Education clarified through a press release today that it had advised All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) about the technology of Skeletal Maturity two years ago, which determines the accurate age of a person.

Recently, the Asian Football Confederation along with a charge of US$ 10,000 Diwakar Lal Amatya, the president of the Institute, stated that the process of determining the age is called Skeletal Maturity TW 2 Method, in scientific term. The process is examined through the X-ray of hand scalps which is followed by the test of the development of 20 bones. Not only this, the technology also can confirm the height of the person after being a adult.

Amatya, through the press release, appealed Nepali Sports officials to include the path of scientific research and investigation rather than to stick with traditional process.
