1,600 kgs of refuse from Everest collected

KATHMANDU, May 26 (RSS)- Nuguchi Asian Group Everest Cleaning Expedition-2001 brought here 1600 kgs of refuse from the north side of Mt. Everest today.

A 45-member team comprising Japanese, South Koreans, Chinese and Nepalis had brought the garbage collected in the past one and a half months here today, it was disclosed at a press meet organized by Asian Trekking (P) Ltd. here today.

Responding to questions, Nuguchi of the expedition said because of bad weather conditions, garbage and refuses could not be collected as expected and bodies also dampened their bid of collecting the frozen dead.

Stating that last year the expedition had collected garbage from the Nepal side, he noted that the expedition is looking forward to generating public awareness about cleaning up the Himalaya by demonstrating the garbage in Japan, South Korea, China and Nepal.
