JCF closed amid turmoil

JANAKPUR, Oct 31 - Janakpur Cigarette Factory (JCF),
Nepals one of the oldest factory has been closed down following an explosive
controversy between the two warring workers union.
The factory has been brought to a standstill after the
National Democratic Workers Union (NDWU) and Nepal Factory Workers Congress
(NFWC) clashed against each other on Tuesday.
The conflict between the two unions assumed explosive
proportions on Tuesday when the office of the secretariat was vandalised leading to a
chaotic situation and bringing the factory to a standstill.
Shravan Kumar Jha and Sambhu Shah, pro-Congress workers were
wounded during the scuffle while window-glasses of the factory Secretariat Office were
shattered to pieces, reports from the district stated.
Both the warring factions have been raising conflicting
opinions about the scuffle that led the factory to an abrupt closure. The violence flared
when these officials picked up the quarrel inside the office of the General Manager
disrupting the on-going talks, Safi informed.
However, General Manager, Janakpur Cigarette Factory, Hari
Gautam said that he had hardly any knowledge about the Tuesdays incidence that broke
out inside the office of the Secretariat.
After the closure of the factory, officials of both the
unions have been accusing each other of bringing down the closure of the factory.
President of NDWU, Bhogendra Raut said that the violence broke out when the officials of
the NFWC resorted to undemocratic activities. While Yusuf Safi, President of the NFWC
accused General Manager Gautam as having initiating the fight.
The officials of the workers union had been accusing
Gautam who had been recently designated as General Manager of the Janakpur Cigarette
Factory. The officials here accused Gautam of unsatisfactory performance in his capacity
as the General Manager of the countrys oldest existing factory. Gautam had been
appointed unopposed as the General Manager of the factory for a successive third-term,
report from the district stated. |
