KB memorial inter-school cricket tourney

KATHMANDU, Oct 31 (PR) – First Kancha Bahadur (KB) Khatri Memorial School Cricket tournament will start from November 17, the organisers East West Overseas Express Couriers announced at a press conference held here on Wednesday.

The inter-school tournament, expected to draw eight schools of the valley, will be played in league cum knock-out basis, said the organisers on the occasion.

"The school students under 15 years of age till December 31, 2001 are eligible to participate in the tournament, " said Suresh Khatri, proprietor of East West Overseas Express Couriers and tournament secretary. However, the players will have to be above 9 years and a regular student of the school they are representing, he added.

The tournament will have a necessary technical support availed from the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), CAN treasurer Shashi Dutt Pandey confirmed.

"Apart from providing technical support and the umpires for the tournament, CAN is also viewing this championship as a selection tournament for players for upcoming Under-15 Asia Cup to be held in UAE early next year," said Pandey on the occasion.

The tournament will feature 40-over innings matches, which will be played at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground.

The organisers also announced to resume East West Overseas cricket tournament, after a gap of two years. The third edition of the tournament is scheduled to get underway on December 1, informed Khatri.

The first East West Overseas cricket tournament was won by Mahabir Club while the hosts lifted the trophy second time around.
