Jhapa demolish Lalitpur in girls’ football

Post Report

LALITPUR, Nov 3 - Defending Champion Jhapa started the 2nd Inter-school National girls’ football tournament promisingly as they demolished Lalitpur district 16-0 in the opening match at the ANFA complex ground on Saturday.

Jhapa’s show was aided by the perfect combination of their front line trio of Kabita Gurung, Aita Maya Subba and Rekha Khawas as all of them scored hat-trick against their lowly opponents.

Subba scored in the opening minute of the match as she connected a perfect header off Kabita Gurung’s pass. The scoring string of Jhapa girls continued as they netted a total of six goals in the first half itself.

The second half proved tougher for the Lalitpur girls as Jhapa added ten more to the tally. It was Gurung, who finished her hat-trick first as she buried a left footer utilizing the ball passed to her by Muna Khawas in the 42nd minute. Next player to complete the hat-trick was Subba, who just guided the ball in the opposition net in 44th minute as Lalitpur goalie, mere spectator on the field today, was nowhere near the goal post. Khawas connected a brilliant header using the corner kick off Gurung in the 47th minute to complete her hat-trick—third for the team.

Gurung went on to score double hat-trick—seven altogether, with Subba and Khawas collecting five and four individual goals to their name respectively.

Jhapa dominated the match to such an extent that Jhapa goalie Reena Rai never had any opportunity to save opponent attack.

In the second match played today of the same group, Kailali thrashed Parsa 7-0. Chandra Bhandari of the winning team scored five goals as Sita Thapa and Mamta KC scored each.
