Terrorism doesnt pay
People have begun to breathe a sigh of relief
since last few months. Though there have been some reports of extortions and harassments,
there have been respite from the killings as a result of the government and Maoist peace
talks. Two rounds of talks had taken place with no results, except for a faint glimmer of
hope for an amicable solution to the Maoist insurgency. However, recent killings and
abductions indicate further escalation of Maoist terror.
The resumption of killings, while another round
of talks are being discussed, has also sent an ominous signal that the Maoist leaders do
not have or have already lost control over their followers in their ranks and files.
Meanwhile, there were also incidents in different places of the people confronting the
so-called Maoist miscreants, and foiling their attempts to disrupt the peace. These
incidents are a clear manifestation that the public is fed up with the Maoists and is even
prepared to fight terrorism themselves, but they also indicate the possible civil war.
At this crucial juncture, what the country needs
is an assertive administration to give not only a sense of security among the people and
good governance, but also to send a clear message to these errant elements that terrorism
does not pay.
