Nothing chauvinist about it
This refers to Sunday Post correction of the
best contributor of the week that appeared on Sunday which was initially given to
"For the betterment, development of men and society". However it was notified
the other day that another contribution as the best contributor.
Such inadvertent correction really
discourages a students creativity. The child explicitly dubbed women a "subject
to give away", who go to their husbands' house after marriage. Here, the child writer
did nothing; he only used his freedom of expression. Did you change the best contributor
because someone who had no authority complained, or was it because the child wrote :
"women are stupid"?
If this is so, then our understanding of
gender issue is very fragile and inadequate. How many write-ups for children's column come
up. If a child has negative understanding, how do we solve that problem? How do we try to
change the perception, expression, if it is not acceptable to us?
Even if a child commits an offence, it is not
considered so under the law. Here, without thinking of child psychology and his
creativity, a child has been victimized by your discretion.
