Rana
elected as new ANFA president
Post Report
KATHMANDU, Nov 14
Geeta Rana, who has been heading the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) ad hoc
committee, was elected as the president of the association following the ANFA executive
committee election held on Wednesday.
Rana polled 28 votes as
against her compititor Tashi Ghales 17 in the second round of voting after she
failed to win a clear majority in the initial round. She had collected 27 votes while
Ghale had 17.
The election was held
in accordance with statutes endorsed by the footballs world governing body
FIFA and Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
"Truth has
prevailed in the election," said newly elected Rana. "We have new programmes on
football development. As the election was held respecting FIFA and AFC norms, they should
recognise us as the legitimate football governing body in Nepal."
Karma Tshiring Sherpa
was elected unopposed as the senior vice-president while Rama Singh was elected
vice-president through the first round poll. Besides, Kumar Thapa and Haribol Bhandari
were also elected unopposed as general-secretary and treasurer respectively. But there
were a few surprising results that led to the loss of some of the well-known names from
the vice-presidency.
In a dramatic twist of
events, Lalit Krishna Shrestha, erstwhile secretary of the association lost the post
following five rounds of voting that went late into the evening. Likewise,
associations former treasurer Krishna Bhakta Manandhar and Mathura Ram Shrestha also
bit the dust.
Mukesh Man Singh Malla,
Fanendra Prasad Sharma and Mahendra Raj Joshi filled in the remaining slots of
vice-presidency after five rounds of poll. The surprising result largely owe it due for an
unusual provision requiring regional representation - that came into play after the
second round of voting.
Rajesh Shrestha, Saput
Bahadur Karki, Kapli Gurung, Shridhar Sharma, Prakash Bista, Phillip KC, Upendra Kumar
Yadav, Birendra Lal Shrestha and Sanjeev Mishra have been elected as members. |
