Radisson, NB Bank make flying start in Soaltee Super Sixes

Post Report

KATHMANDU, Nov 23 – Defending Champions Khetan Group made a poor start to their title defence in the Soaltee Super Sixes cricket tournament, which started Friday at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground.

A total of 16 corporate teams are participating in the three-day six-a-side event. Khetan Group were completely outplayed by Radisson Hotel and Embassy of India in the pool A matches.

While Radisson Hotel defeated Khetan by 22 runs, the Embassy of India scored a one-wicket victory over them as Ghai scored a six off the last ball of the innings.

Khetan, batting second in the first match, failed to chase a target of 64 put up by Radisson while in the second match they could not check the Indian batsmen below 38, which they scored with the loss of three wickets batting first.

Hotel Radisson also defeated Embassy of India by 5 wickets in another pool A match. With two victories in two matches Radisson tops the pool and needs one more win for a place in the semi-finals.

Last year’s semi-finalists, Kantipur Publications, also failed to qualify to the next round losing both of their league matches played on the opening day. Winning the toss on both the occasions, Kantipur were unsuccessful as they decided to bat first, losing them by identical margin – 5 wickets.

Kantipur’s first loss came at the hands of Nepal Bangladesh Bank, who successfully chased the target of 44 runs while the 37 runs they scored for the loss of two wickets in five overs in the second match against British Gorkhas Nepal proved too low a total as the latter overwhelmed them inside four overs.

For Kantipur, Bhaskar Sharma and Jay Nishant took a wicket each in the first and second match respectively. Tarun of Indian Embassy bagged the cash prize of Rs 500 for hitting a six against Radisson. The prize was set up by Suraj Pokharel, an accountant at Kantipur Publications and will be awarded for every single six hit in the tournament.
