Dipendra Police, LRI advance

Post Report

SANGA, Kavre, Nov 28 – The hosts Dipendra Police School, Sanga and Learning Realm International (LRI) School registered wins in the league matches of the ongoing 10th IGP Cup football tournament on Wednesday.

The hosts came from behind to register a thrilling 3-2 victory over Nawaratna Higher Secondary School, Panauti. Mukunda Sainju of Navaratna School put his team ahead in the 15th minute, but the police boys fought their way back in the 28th minute to level the score at 1-1 through the goal of Ashok Gurung.

The Panauti boy Saiju raised to the occasion again in the 36th minute to score his second to help Nawaratna regain lead at 2-1.

But, two late goals in the space of two minutes – in the 65th and 67th minutes – coming off the feet off Kamal Thapa and Nirmal Chettri saw the police boys grab the deserving victory at the end.

The visiting SOS Itahari were held to a 2-2 draw by Mount Valley School, Lalitpur in the other match.

Itahari, despite having a two-goal cushion in the first half of play through Ashok Gurung and Bishnu Dutta, let in the opposition to crawl back into the game. SOS failed to keep the momentum going on and their defense faltered in the second half.

Narayan Gurung narrowed the deficit down to 2-1 in the 56th minute and Bikash Thapalia scored the all important equaliser 21 minutes into the second session.

Earlier in the first match of the day, LRI School thrashed Dipendra Police School (DPS) Pokhara 5-0. Dhan Singh Ale, Sagar Thapa, Bikarna Shrestha, Vicky Malla and Santosh Deupal Scored were among the goals.
