Double delight for St. Xavier’s

Post Report

LALITPUR, Nov 29 – The sixth day of the Father Moran memorial inter-school football tournament brought a double delight to St. Xavier’s fans as both their teams won their respective matches held Thursday to enter the quarterfinals.

St. Xavier’s Godavari Blue, who faced tough challenge of Machhapuchchhre in the opening session, broke the defence shackles in the second half to squeeze a 1-0 win. Machhapuchchhre goalkeeper who was otherwise brilliant under the bars failed to prevent Saroj Bista from finding the net 21 minutes into the second half, securing their place in the quarterfinals.

To meet them in the last eight, St. Xavier’s Jawalakhel scored a convincing 3-0 victory over Young Hearts School in the other match.

Xavier’s, launching early raids, moved 2-0 up as Manish KC came up with double strike inside 11 minutes of play. He scored his first goal in the 2nd minute and doubled the lead nine minutes later.

While Young Hearts struggled to make headway in the second half, Xavier’s continued to push themselves hard making life difficult for the opposition defence. Abinash Khadki quickly exploited an opportunity to further the Xavier’s lead to 3-0 three minutes after resumption of play to ascertain their supremacy over Young Hearts.
