Keep yourself updated

This is in response to a letter published in your daily by Daven Kshetriya on October 2, 2001. In his sheer hatred, Daven forgets to comprehend the basic realpolitik involved in the situation. He is quite unaware that Pakistan is not supporting the fight against terrorism. In the hindsight Pakistan knows its situation of financial and economic bankruptcy pursuant to US sanctions imposed years ago. Contrary to his remarks, the US first talked to the Indian Prime Minister and Foreign Minister before asking for support from Pakistan. Pakistan knows its limitations in a sense that even if Pakistan refuses any support to the US, it will be isolated internationally, and Pakistan can no longer afford financial bankruptcy. The post-September 11 diplomatic negotiations between India and the US totally negates the remarks of Daven that India has been isolated internationally. It is important to note that the US request to Pakistan is not due to later becoming such an important friend of Pakistan, but due to the strategic and geographical location of Pakistan vis-a-vis Afghanistan, which to some extent is contributing to sudden volte-face of the US.

Pakistan is, in the situation, doing what it has to do for survival. After some time, Daven will come to know who is the ultimate gainer, India or Pakistan. You also talked about the issue of self-determination right of Kashmiri people, who in your opinion ultimately want to merge with Pakistan. I am asking your remark in a similar situation prevailing in Nepal whereas Maoists are demanding for monarchy-free republic. Whether this sort of self-determination is acceptable to any government or not, you will come to know only when you are at the helm of affairs, not from the sideline as you intend to. Hence, Daven have unbiased opinion about India particularly when your government cannot dare such a remark. Instead of advising India to keep its house in order, please show your patriotism by coming out openly against corruption and terrorist anarchism in the country. Your fellow countrymen will salute you.

A Sharan
