Inter-school swimming C’ship

LALITPUR, Sept 7 - The 2nd Little Angels Short Course Inter-school swimming championship 2001 got underway at the school’s swimming complex here on Friday.

The three-day swimming championship is being participated by 196 swimmers of 30 schools from the valley.

In the 15-17 age-group boys’ 100m breaststroke event, Alice Shrestha of Baba School, who has been selected for the 9th South Asian Federation Games touched the wall in 1:12.36sec to win the race. Aslam Alam of The British School managed to finish second clocking 1:20.81sec, while Pankaj Gauchan of Nagarjun International School was third with the timing of 1:26.24sec.

Shrestha also clinched the medals in 100m backstroke and 50m freestyle with the timing of 1:19.53sec and 28.89sec respectively.

Other winners on Friday:

100m butterfly (13-14 girls)—Bibidha Rimal 1:40.58sec; (13-14 boys)—Pravindra Budathoki 1:28.30sec; (15-17 boys)—Rajaram Manandhar 01:14.64sec.

100m breaststroke (13-14 girls)—Bibidha Rimal 1:30.83sec; (13-14 boys)—Kamal Pun 01:23.21sec; (15-17 girls)—Michelle Daniel 1:40.70sec.

100m backstroke ( 13-14 girls)—Bibidha Rimal 1:39.15sec; (13-14 boys)—Bhupendra Rawal 1:32.27sec; (15-17 girls)—Michelle Daniel 1:25.24sec.

50m freestyle (U-12 girls)—Sujana Shakya 36.17sec; (U-12 boys)—Allan Shrestha 33.23sec; (13-14 girls)—Hannah Hancock 36.90sec; (13-14 boys)—Kamal Pun 31.65sec; (15-17 girls)—Michelle Daniel 34.80sec.


Brookfield basketball tourney

KATHMANDU (PR) – Hosts Brookfield Academy defeated Bernhart College 37-30 in the inaugural match of the 2nd Brookfield Inter-school basketball tournament which kicked off Friday.

In the second game of the championship, Everest College defeated Capital College 44-31. Deep from the winning team was the topscorer of the match with 14 points.

Likewise, Campion Academy edged out British Gorkha College 29-22 in the day’s third match. Pema scored 10 points for the Campion in the low scoring match. Malphi College beat Galaxy, 44-41 in the day’s final match. The match had to be decided in extra time as the match remained in a deadlock after the regulation time. A total of 15 teams from different schools (10+2) will feature in the tournament being held at the premises of the Brookfield Academy.
