The news report, entitled "Maoists
September 21 meet creates fear in the capital" (TKP, Sept 14, 2001) was for me no
better than what we read in several evening newspapers.
In that story I could not find a single
responsible citizen whose version would be reliable to us. "One of the
Shopkeepers", "a hotel entrepreneur", "Subarna Debi Fanju",
"Nikesh Khadka of Sarasworti School" were some of the people, you quoted in the
story but none of them gave their full or real identities.
You might have heard that the Maoist terrorists
have taken away 25 sacks of beaten rice from a shopkeeper in Ward No 15, and 600 blankets
from Ward No 25. Why cant you go and ask them what actually happened? They could
give you a better picture of the panic and trouble they have to live in almost everyday.
None of the renowned, social workers,
businessmen, doctors and teachers of the capital came in your contacts. I cant
believe it. It seems that Utpal Raj Mishra and Ghanshyam Ojha wrote the newsreport without
doing any fieldwork.
Your paper gives a lot of space to useless
speeches of politicians, but not to the people from various walks of life. Or if you
really want to show that you care for the public, then go to the public, talk to them, try
to understand their pain and misery, and write about them.
