ANFA Inter-academy football from today

KATHMANDU, Sept 23 - The All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) is organising ANFA Cup Inter-academy football tournament from today, at the Jawalakhel Football Ground.

The tournament, which will run for five days will feature about 77 footballers, who are under care of ANFA junior football project.

Among 77, the Depot School of Dharan has 25 trainees, while Elite Co-ed and Gyanodaya School of Kathmandu share 26 each. All the three schools will send two teams for the tournament.

The tournament provides the stage for the youngsters to be selected for upcoming Asian Youth Under-14 Football Festival, which will be held in Bangladesh from October 25 to November 1. A total of eight teams will compete in the tournament, which is being organised by Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for the first time.

The selected footballers from the Academy team will play another phase of selection tournament with the players selected in open selection last week. More than 40 players have been selected form the inter-school tournament and open selection.

Altogether 20 players will be selected for the final squad for Bangladesh tour, informed Ganesh Thapa the president of FIFA affiliated ANFA at a press conference on Sunday.

"Our intention is to pick up the strongest and genuine players for the tour of Bangladesh as we have chances of winning the tournament," adds Ganesh Thapa .

Eight teams from Asia including Bangladesh, India, Kazakastan, Nepal, Maldives , Laos, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan will take part in the tournament.

Gyanodaya Academy team ‘A’ will meet Laboratory Academy team ‘B’ in the tournament’s first match, while Laboratory ‘A’ will take on Gyanodaya ‘B’ in the second match today.
