Gyanodaya Aoff to
flying start
Post Report
LALITPUR, Sept 24 - Gyanodaya Academy A
got off to a flying start in the ANFA Inter-academy Under-14 football tournament Monday
with a 5-1 thumping of Laboratory B.
Gyanodaya A boys fabulous win was
possible largely because of brilliant hattrick from Vivic Shrestha.
After a goalless first quarter, Shrestha struck
twice between the 16th and 17th minutes to give Gyanodaya A 2-0 cushion.
Laboratorys Hem Raj Nepal reduced the
deficit at 2-1 in 18th minute. But that was all what they could make out of the game.
In the 42nd minute, Shrestha completed his
hat-trick and extended Gyanodaya lead to 3-0. Gyanendra Ale and Ranjit Shrestha also added
a goal each to complete the big win.
In the other match, Gyanodaya B came
from back to draw 1-1 with Laboratory A.
The equalizer came four minutes from time off a
penalty when Laboratory A defender Roshan Rayamajhi, in his desperate attempt
to prevent the danger inflicted a ferocious tackle on Gyanodaya attacker Swen Limbu inside
the 18 yard area. And Sunil Koju successfully converted the resultant penalty into goal in
the 56th minute.
Earlier, Laboratory A, making waves
of attacks, moved up to take a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute when Anil Karki guided the ball
home off a brilliant off Uttam Gurung from the right. Karki, taking the cross on his
stride, dribbled past the rival goalkeeper Niraj Balla to finish
the job.
Gyanodaya outfit looked completely out of sort
for the much of the first half, failing to make any headway in the session.
However, the match became more lively when the
teams changed their sides. Both the teams played attacking football. Amidst the exchanges
of attacks, Anil Karki of Laboratory went close to double their lead within a minute into
the second half with a gaping goal in front of him but his shot went wide off the target.
Six minutes later, it was the turn of Gyanodayas
Swen Limbu, who completely squandered a brilliant effort of Pravesh Thapa, failing to
connect on his right cross.
Gyanodaya B had one more opportunity
in the 42nd minute but only to no avail. Kojus nicely taken right footed 30-yard
free-kick was brilliantly put away by Laboratorys goalie Sanjiv Shrestha.
Most of the Laboratorys attacks went in
vain because of Niran Rai - the last defense of Gyanodaya side.
Gyanodaya coach Kishor KC expressed a mixed
reaction over the performances of his teams. "The `A team was fabulous
today," said KC, after the match. "The second team, however, looked quite rusty.
Nevertheless, I am pleased they didnt lose the match."
The tournament, being played on league-cum
knockout format will see Laboratory B taking on Depot A in the
opening match on Tuesday while Depot B of Dharan will meet Gyanodaya B
in the days other match. A total of six teams representing three academies are
taking part in the tournament.
