Gyanodaya ‘B’ secure place in last four with 3-0 win

Post Report

LALITPUR, Sept 25 - Gyanodaya ‘B’ scored a 3-0 win over Dharan’s Depot ‘B’ on Tuesday, securing full three points and a semifinal berth of the ANFA Cup Inter-academy football tournament.

Gyanodaya ‘B’, who shared the points with Laboratory ‘A’ in their Group B encounter Monday, after rather slow start built up their midfield might against the outfit from Dharan.

Depot ‘B’, however, showed a lot of courage in the first session of play to keep the Gyanodaya attackers at bay with gritty defense and occasional counter attacks.

Gyanodaya striker Sohen Limbu had a close look at goal in the 22nd minute but he failed to keep his shot low enough. Depot boys, launching a quick counterattack, created a chance of their own three minutes later. But Pukar Ghatraj’s freekick from the edge of the 18-yard box sailed over the bar.

In the 26th minute, Madhav Chaulagain of Gyanodaya was a fraction wide off target as he hit the upright. But even before Depot boys could feel relieved, Prabin Thapa put them into lead in the following minute. The referee pointed for the spot kick when Raju Bania was brought down inside the penalty area by Depot defender Roshan Subba right in front of his nose. And Thapa buried his right-footed shot for a 1-0 lead.

The beginning of the second half saw Gyanodaya become more aggressive as Depot looked sporadic in their approach.

Thapa could have secured a hattrick in the match but he spurned a clear opportunity in the 37th minute close to the goal. But Gyanodaya, making a string of breathtaking moves in the Depot territory exteded their lead to 2-0 in the 42nd minute. The advancing Depot ‘keeper Sabin Regmi’s while trying to clear the danger ended up conceding the ball to the on rushing Raju Bania, who sent the ball home with a perfectly executed lob.

And in the 52nd minute, a combination between Sohen Limbu and Prabin Thapa gave Gyanodaya an unassailable 3-0 lead, sealing the fate of Depot boys. Limbu supplied a well measured cross from the left and Thapa without wasting any time headed the ball home.

Earlier, Depot ‘A’ cameback from a goal down to hand out a 2-1 defeat to Laboratory ‘B’, their second in as many outings. They suffered a 5-1 hammering from Gyanodaya ‘A’ on Monday.

Bijay Khadka ignited an early hope for Laboratory when he put them in front in the 4th minute of the match.

As neither team made headway until the 41st minute, it seemed Laboratory would walk away with full three points. But just then Sishir Adhikari brought Depot ‘A’ back into the game, leveling the score at 1-1. For Laboratory ‘B’ the bad turned into worst seven minutes later when Dilli Dhamala slotted home the decision goal for Depot outfit.

In the final league matches of the tournament on Wednesday, Gyanodaya ‘A’ meet Depot ‘A’ followed by the match between Laboratory ‘A’ and Depot ‘B’.
