Depot teams set up derby semifinal

Post Report

LALITPUR, Sept 26 - Depot ‘B’ won 2-1 against Laboratory ‘A’ while Depot ‘A’ and Gyanodaya ‘A’ played a 3-3 draw in the last match of the preliminary round of ongoing ANFA Cup Inter-academy football tournament.

The result forced Depot ‘A’ to take on their colleagues Depot ‘B’, while Gyanodaya ‘A’ will meet Laboratory ‘A’ in the semifinals berth on Thursday.

In a closely contested group ‘B’ match played today, Depot ‘B’ came from behind to secure their second straight win with two second half goals. They conceded an early lead, when Uttam Gurung of Laboratory ‘A’ scored in the 2nd minute.

Gurung, taking the advantage of a blunder of Depot goalie Sabin Regmi - attempting to clear the ball failed to connect properly - buried a full-blooded shot to give his side a 1-0 lead.

The change of side brought fortunes for Depot as Pukar Gahatraj took the right cross off Krishna Sharma. Gahatraj wasted no time to unleash a cracking shot, which kissed the opposition’s net to leave Laboratory goal keeper Sanjiv Shrestha stand still. The equaliser came two minutes into the second half.

In the 48th minute, Roshan Karki of Depot brought on the decisive blow header to give a 2-1 lead, which remained unchanged till the final whistle. Earlier, Gyanodaya ‘A’ played a 3-3 draw with Depot ‘A’ side in one of the most sensational matches of the tournament. It was Depot’s Bikash Chettri, who found the net in the opening minute.

The lead remained only for a while, though, as Gyanodaya’s Suraj Kharbhuja restored parity in the 14th minute. The see-saw battle continued as Depot’s Bishal Shrestha made it 2-1 in the 36th minute but Sandeep Rai found the answer in the 40th minute to bring the score at 2-2.

Depot went to lead 3-2 through Shishir Adhikari’s goal in the 41st minute. But, Gyanodaya’s Gyanendra Ale ensured a point with a goal seven minutes from time.
