Gyanodaya, Lincoln enter quarter finals

KATHMANDU, Sept 29 (PR) – Gyanodaya and Lincoln School entered the quarter-finals of the Amrit Trophy Basketball (ATB) Championship owing to their third successive win in the tournament on Saturday.

While Gyanodaya defeated Ascol Juniors 61-52 in the Pool B encounter, Lincoln thrashed Galkopakha Youth Club (GYC) 57-16 in the Pool A contest.

Gyanodaya, after a tame start to the match in the first quarter, played brilliantly in the second quarter to raise their score to 33-20. The first quarter score was 13-11 as Ascol boys had been successful in restraining the Gyanodaya scorers.

The third quarter also belonged to Gyanodaya as they extended their lead to 40-29. Ascol Juniors, already 11 points behind Gyanodaya, came back into the match in the fourth quarter scoring a total of 23 points. However, Ascol boys failed to check the Gyanodaya scorers and they collected 21 points, good enough to take them home with a 9-point advantage.

Despite the defeat, Raju Lama of Ascol remained the highest scorer of the match at 17 points with a three-pointer to his credit. Manish Lama scored 15 points for Gyanodaya—including 3 three-pointers. For Lincoln school, Jan Fisler continued to impress the audience with yet another powerful performance which earned him 17 points.

In the Pool C contest of the day, Peace Zone Youth Club (PZYC) defeated Kathmandu University (KU) 46-33. Peace Zone players dominated the match right from the start capitalising on the moves made in the court. Their finishing was much better than the KU boys, who normally failed in most of the scoring attempts early on.

Tashi of PZYC was the highest scorer of the match with a personal score of 15. Robin Shrestha of KU also played well to score 12 points—with 3 three-pointers.
