When he speaks...

Army Chief’s latest remark has caused quite a furor. It has stirred a hornet’s nest, the sting of which has been felt by our politicians and cries of pains have been heard at both the Houses of Parliament. The politicians of opposition parties and the opposing members of even the ruling party are crying hoarse for the resignations of the Army Chief and the Prime Minister. Their main contention is that the Army Chief should not make political comments. But then, is there a politician in today’s Nepal, in and out of post, who is making comments befitting their position and conducive to solving the crisis the nation is facing at this moment? Don’t we see irresponsible and crackpot remarks from our so called leaders printed in daily newspapers everyday?

By raising these questions I am not trying to sanctify the Army Chief’s comment nor am I trying to justify it. This is a matter of debate but the fact remains that the questions raised by the Army Chief are the ones in the minds of every responsible Nepali concerned. The fact is that these questions should have been raised by the politicians themselves and discussed in the House. But our Sansads are too preoccupied with their games for the chair, power and money and have no time to spare, take for instance, one Nepali killing another Nepali.

Even at this hour of crisis that the Nation is going through, our politicians cannot but think of their political losses and gains. Shouldn’t they rather be sincerely discussing the situation of the country and putting all out effort to finding the solutions to the problems the country is facing, which is a result of their own making during the last twelve years, and restoring peace and order? Can a Nepali hope to see that day in near future?
