Maoist atrocities

This refers to the news story titled "Will 2026 BS SLC topper disrupt its happening this year?" dated March 31, 2002, TKP.

After this story, the outlawed Maoist fugitives called off the five day long nationwide bandh and SLC examinees have begun to write their papers without much harassment. But the Maoists, led by Babu Ram Bhattarai, disrupted last year’s academic calendar, calling bandhs regularly. The Maoists often closed down educational institutions and even tortured teachers when they attended their schools. This is a kind of cruelty imposed on students and teachers. Such cruelty also underlines the "poor" ideology preached by the 1970’s topper. If Bhattarai were a really good student, he would not have opted violence against students. He appears more a barbarian than a human who learns lessons to sow seeds of non-violence in this country. Bhattarai is not better than Saudi millionaire Osama bin Laden.

I think the Maoist way of violence to achieve the goal — that is to overthrow the present government and establish an autocratic communist system in this country — will never materialise. Nepali society is not as horizontal as the Chinese. It is more vertical in form and content, thus the practice of non-violence has been more practical to restore peace. Killings will remain a mere goal of the Maoist ideologue rather than establish a (crude) law to rule this country.

The students appearing in the SLC examination will remember this year as the year of Maoist atrocities.
