No monetary gains
I am writing this in response to the snippet
Tinkune Madam as written by your reporter hiding behind the initials of RM in the Off Beat
column of April 6, 2002.
I am happy to see that the reporter is
interested in city matters. But I would have appreciated more indepth reporting instead of
slandering a person who has committed her time and energy to city beautification without
monetary gains. Yes, I am the Tinkune Madam but I did not receive a large contract for
doing this project. I was called in to help two weeks before SAARC and gave my time freely
because I felt it was a tiny contribution to the success of SAARC. I was not paid
monetarily but received my appreciation in terms of the work accomplished. The work was
contracted to three professional nurseries-the Standard, the Ambar and the Flora Farms. I
was the landscape designer who had to cope with clearing away debris and beautifying 55
ropanis of land in a short span of nine days. It was only possible because the Department
of Roads, Baneswore made available all the necessary equipment and manpower. What is
tragic and I fully agree is the fact that Tinkune is not being looked after despite
several reminders to the persons in charge at the Department of Roads. I have certainly
not received a contract to maintain the garden. Perhaps this is the issue which should be
raised by your esteemed paper.
