KATHMANDU, April 8: The Nepal Basketball Association (NBA) will organise the 3rd National Men’s Open and 2nd Women’s Open Basketball tournament in the capital from May11-25, the association said in its press release issued on Monday.

According to the press release, a meeting chaired by NBA president Mahesh Kumar Agrawal confirmed the date of the tournament and formed several subcommittees to carry out the tournament successfully. "This time the association will encourage the participants outside the valley offering them Rs 1000 each from quarterfinals onward," the press release quotes Agrawal.

NBA general-secretary Seeta Pandey looks after the management subcommittee while Mahendra Jung Shakya has been selected as the coordinator for financial subcommittee. Likewise, for publicity coordination, IM Singh has been nominated. Hari Narayan Maharjan gained the place of technical subcommittee’s coordinator while Dr Ajay Rana will take care of medical coordination.

The press release further added that, the tournament would serve as the selection tournament for upcoming SAARC Basketball Championship to be held in Bangladeshi capital Dhaka in August. The better 16 teams, if more than 16 register for the competition, will compete at the tournament, which will run for 14 days.
