HM calls for mutual confidence

Post Report

KATHMANDU, April 14:His Majesty King Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev in his message to the nation on the occasion of New Year 2059 has called all Nepalis to unite in widening the base of mutual confidence and understanding through democratic exercises with the focal point on their allegiance to the nation.

His Majesty the King has said- "We should not forget that the people themselves are the bedrock of any polity and the only catalysts of change. The primary responsibility of the state is to ensure a simple life and dignity for each and every Nepali in an environment of peace, security and good governance. It will be well for all concerned to be mindful of this fact."

The full text of the message is as follows:

Beloved Countrymen,

On the auspicious occasion of the New Year 2059, we extend our best wishes to all Nepalese, wherever they may be, for good health, happiness and prosperity.

The New Year gives us an opportunity to remind about our past experiences and move into the future by drawing strength from our successes and rectifying shortcomings. The past year has been painful for us all. Continued violence and destruction of development infrastructures in the country have left our economy in shambles.

The Nepalese people, determined, as they are to endure a happy and prosperous future for themselves through the overall development of the country, are not only discouraged but also disillusioned. The time has now come to see to it that our nation tides over these challenges. All Nepalese, with the focal point on their allegiance to the nation, must, therefore, unite in widening the base of mutual confidence and understanding through democratic exercise.

We should not forget that the people themselves are the bedrock of any polity and the only catalysts of change. The primary responsibility of the state is to ensure a simple life with dignity for each and every Nepalese in an environment of peace, security and good governance. It will be well for all concerned to be mindful of this fact.

May this day inspire all the patriotic citizens of this kingdom towards enhancing, through the multi-party system, the prestige of the Nepalese people by building a prosperous Nepal.

May Lord Pashupatinath bless us all!

Jaya Nepal!
