TU thrash Nuwakot

Post Report

KATHMANDU, April 14 : Tribhuvan University (TU) bounced back from Friday’s loss to Kathmandu with an impressive 9 wicket thrashing of Nuwakot in the Regional Cricket Selection tournament held at Tribhuvan University cricket ground on Sunday.

Left arm medium pacer Ritesh Baral wreaked havoc among the Nuwakot batsmen grabbing seven wickets. He was on a hattrick thrice but could not achieve the feat.

Baral picked up a couple of wickets in first two balls, trapping Indra Kumar Gurung leg before and uprooting Rajkumar Thapa’s middle stump, after Nuwakot elected to bat on winning the toss.

Baral’s brilliance overshadowed scintillating batting of Rakesh Singh who lone handedly fought against TU bowlers to make impressive 70 runs. During his strokeful 61-ball knock, Singh flayed the TU attack belting 10 boundaries.

No Nuwakot batsman could stay long at the crease to cross double figure mark depriving Singh of partner and the whole team was bundled out for mere 108 runs in 23.2 overs. Apart from Baral, left arm bowler Yug Basnet claimed two wickets while Bhushan Pant notched one.

Chasing a small target, TU batsmen approached the task with cool head and achieved the task in just 19 overs. They lost Naresh Nepal at 10 but skipper Devendra (Durga Prasad) Subedi stayed at the crease guiding promising cricketer Rabindra Thapa. They added 85 unbeaten runs for the second wicket to see their team to victory.

Thapa scored 45 off 54 deliveries studded with five fours while Subedi gathered 37 including three boundaries in 51 balls. Johnny JK was the only bowler to pick up wicket for visitors.

Kathmandu leads the table with a win in one outing while TU and Lalitpur are at the second spot. Bhaktapur and Nuwakot, yet to open their accounts, battle for a point on Monday’s clash at the same ground.
